Old Project - 1988F Astra GTE 16v in Glacier White

This was something of a blunder on my part, bought on trust after a one way flight to Glasgow.

The logic was that I always wanted a white one, and therefore even though I'd spent a couple of years on the grey one, changing it was still a (silly) option that I was prepared to go with instead of buying several litres of white paint and completely re-spraying it.

Best described as 'shiny on top' I spent two solid weeks welding it back together after driving it more than 400 miles home from Scotland.  A big financial loss and a great shame too, as it's a great looking car, still had all its standard parts (many of which were in the boot when I bought it, but got refitted) and had the very rare combination of the early interior and the 'right' white due to its age.  This combination was only available new for a couple of months at the end of 1988.

There's not much more to say really, it sold for £870 on eBay and I sold it with a clear conscience.  How the chap that sold it to me sleeps at night I'll never know but if nothing else, always check a car thoroughly before agreeing to buy it.  That means going to see it and probably missing out on a good car that's too far away.  One day I'll post up some more photos showing the horrors underneath, but despite all of those it was very repairable and I'd done all of the worst bits.  Maybe I should have kept it, but there's no way it was going to replace the grey one.
